I saw Michael Crawford's last performance as Phantom when i was 9. I think Sarah had stopped being Christine by that point because of the divorce. My friend's mother was a violinist for the performance and others. She was able to get us 2nd row seats. It was cool seeing her in the orchestra pit. Your comment about not having a full orchestra for every performance caught me off guard because of my experience, though it does make perfect sense. Did they utilize a live orchestra up until some point? While Michael will always be my favorite phantom, I've enjoyed many through videos. Hugh Panaro comes in a close second. I love his psychotic, almost Joker-like, interpretation of the phantom. It's unique and very engaging. Tenors are definitely my favorites. I may he alone in this, but I've never been a fan of the fact that Eric touches Christine in very intimate ways. The age gap is massive, but putting that aside, he's also a master manipulater and a murderer. He tried to force her to marry him, lest he kills her lover. His "love" for her is more like an obsession and a desire to control her. When a man ties a rope around your fiance's neck, threatening to kill him "or else", that's kind of a deal breaker, in my opinion. Heh. What I've loved about the musical since i was a child in the 80s is the music, both lyrical and orchestral. The lyrics matched with amazing singers/actors is everything to me. 💜

Oh, fortunately there’s always an orchestra! It was just wonderful in the 25th anniversary production they added many MORE musicians, which is phenomenal! Not done very often because of the cost. A second row seat is the way to go!

I'm a senior citizen and tried to work on singing opera for over 40 years, to no avail, despite the fact that I know, and have been told, that I have a basically great instrument. I ended up doing church solos, but I was never sure of myself, and was often off pitch, not to mention that I never sang with even close to my full voice or range. this is despite the fact that I'm actually a good musician, as most of my accompanists enjoyed working with me from a musical standpoint. I'm also a trained classical pianist (intermediate amateur; feel free to check my channel) and have been studying music all my life -- various aspects, so i always felt that the vocal problems were physical/emotional/psychological. I'm also familiar with the operatic style and the main european operatic languages -- Italian/German/French. I wish I had discovered you when I was younger. Now that I'm retired, and my voice is still healthy, I may go back to church solos and if I do, I will definitely be contacting you for a lesson. Due to age I believe I have gone from being basically a soprano to a mezzo, but you never know, maybe you could even open up my upper range so I could sing at least the mezzo arias--not as glorious IMHO as the soprano arias, but some are beautiful indeed. You seem like someone who could have gotten through to me when many many others failed. I never blamed them; i always blamed myself. but perhaps it was the teachers who were unable to recognize what the blockage was and how to remedy it

I get so embarrassed when people hear me sing. The only person I ever sang for/ever allowed to hear me sing was my grandpa (R.I.P) on my mom’s side. There was one time, when I was in his living room and he was in his rocking chair in that room, I sang all of Christine’s lines from ALW’s Phantom of the Opera for him. While I did, he had closed his eyes and was smiling and moving his hands in the air like he was conducting. When I was done, I looked at him with a smile and a laugh and asked, "So, what did you think?”. He looked at me and said, “That was amazing and so beautiful. You hit the high notes so well”. Another time I sang all of Christine’s parts was at my grandparent’s house on my dad’s (R.I.P) side. I was downstairs in the play room and they were upstairs in the living room watching tv. I didn’t realize how loud I was singing. I was just so into it, so caught up, and so focused. When I was done, I heard someone clapping which made me turn around. When I saw it was my grandma, I got so embarrassed and my cheeks turned red. She smiled at me and said, “Ok. 1. You’re making grandpa mad. 2. That was so amazing and beautiful. You should be in theatre.” Most of the time, though, I sing Christine’s lines from Phantom of the Opera and Love Never Dies in my room and when I am home alone. I sing songs from other musicals too. Mainly those two, though. May I tell you my favorite musicals and what songs I LOVE singing from them?
